Manipulating carbon with main group alchemy

We’re a brand new group at UNCW interested in developing new methods for constructing bonds to carbon through radical and polar intermediates, especially through functionalizing bonds between carbon and other main group elements!

Our big motivation is using these abundant, heavier main group elements to upend the classic selectivity we learn about in Orgo I and II to imagine new ways to make C-N, C-O and C-C bonds from organobismuth and organosilicon compounds.

Make it stand out

The Chiappini Group’s organosilicon projects are graciously funded by the ACS Petroleum Research Fund
