Dr. Nick Chiappini
Nick hails from the town of Vernon, NJ, best known for its scenic landscapes, rural charm, and comically dangerous waterpark. He received his BA in Chemistry from Drew University, where he worked in the group of Ryan Hinrichs studying photochemical oxidation on atmospheric aerosols. After this, he moved to the West Coast for his PhD, working with Justin Du Bois at Stanford and developing efficient Rh(II)-catalyzed intermolecular sp3 C-H amination reactions applicable to late state functionalization. Before he came aboard at UNCW, Nick was an NIH postdoctoral scholar in the group of Robert Knowles, where he developed a photochemical platform for oxidative and reductive radical generation from organobismuth compounds. In his spare time, Nick loves to stay up to date with pop culture and has a deep love of sci-fi, fantasy, and animation as a medium.
